To configure your Windows 95/98/ME machine for Wireless WiscWorld follow the instructions listed below.

Lab Assistants in the Computer lab - 2nd floor library - will provide walk in assistance.

Directions are provided for LinkSys and Cisco -however all wireless card utilties should be fairly similar. NOTE: These directions are only for configuring the Wireless Network Card once card is configured the rest of the setup for to use the Law library network is the same as for a regular wired ethernet.

Linksys network card:

  1. Insert Wireless card in computer
  2. Boot computer, computer should auto detect the card and install drivers the same as if it was a normal Ethernet Card.
  3. Open the LinkSys wireless network card utility
  4. Change the SID to be Law
  5. Change Network Type to Infrastructure
  6. Make sure encryption is disabled
  7. Channel can be left at default setting - should auto detect.

Cisco Wireless Ethernet card

  1. Insert Wireless card in computer.
  2. Boot computer, computer should auto detect the card and install drivers the same as if it was a normal Ethernet card.
  3. After Windows recognizes the card and installs the drivers, insert the CD-ROM to install the diagnostic software.
    • Go to Start--> Run--> Browse and select the "Utils" folder on the CD-ROM.
    • Double click the setup file.
  4. Configuring your card.
    • Open up the Aironet Client Utility and click on Commands--> Edit properties.

    • Then type in Client Name (ex: Wireless).
    • For SSID1: type in Law exactly how it is on here, without any spaces. Note: At the present time with encryption enabled you will be unable to use the Law Wireless Network, make sure encryption is disabled.

  5. Now check the Status of your signal by going to the, "Link Status Meter".

  6. If you are recieving a signal then you are all set. NOTE: TCP/IP settings need to be set to obtain address. Rest of settings are the same as for a regular ethernet connection on the Law Library public network.
