Did you know that you can renew or recall a book, submit an interlibrary
loan request, recommend a purchase, or ask a reference question all electronically?
Read on!
- View your Library Record:
- Using MadCat Library Catalog,
select "Patron Info" from the bar across the top. After filling
in your ID number and your last name, click "Login". In your
library record you can see what materials you have checked out, the
status of items recalled, and any fines or fees you have incurred.
- Renew Items You Have Checked Out:
- From the list of items checked out on your "Patron Info"
screen, check the boxes of the items you wish to renew. Click "Renew
Items." Check "Renewal Status" column for confirmation.
Items may only be renewed twice.
- Recall Items Already Checked Out:
- If MadCat indicates item you want is already checked out, click on
"Place Requests" from the bar across the top. Fill in your
ID number and last name, then click "Login" and "OK."
Re-enter your ID if necessary and select Law Library as your pick up
location. Type in number of days after which you will not need the item.
Click "Submit Request."
- Exit MadCat:
- When finished viewing your record, recalling, or renewing, be sure
to "Exit" out of MadCat to ensure the safety of your library record.
- Submit an InterLibrary Loan Request:
- There are two options for electronically submitting an ILL request.
Go to http://www.library.wisc.edu/
and select "Interlibrary Loan." From here you can search WorldCat or
the CIC VEL to find items and then make requests directly online. You
can also submit a request via the Law Library Web Site at http://library.law.wisc.edu/services/
and choose "InterLibrary Loan (Law Only)."
- Recommend a Purchase:
- Those wishing to recommend a book, journal, etc. for purchase by the
Law Library can complete an electronic recommendation form. Go to http://library.law.wisc.edu/services/
and choose "Make a Purchase Recommendation." Titles requested are subject
to the library's selection policy. Note that it takes time to acquire
and process items you request.
- Send an Email Reference Question:
- Any UW Madison student, faculty, or staff member can submit a question
to our Reference Librarians via email. Go to http://library.law.wisc.edu/services/
and choose "Email Reference Service." Questions should be kept simple
and direct as we cannot offer extensive reference services to patrons
via email.
