How Does the Proxy Service Work?
Security To protect your username and password, the proxy server encrypts the Proxy Login page. In order to do so, the proxy server provides a "site certificate" for your Web browser to use. Because most Web browsers will allow you to save this certificate, you will only be prompted for it once. However, as the certificate is self signed, browsers tend to give extra warnings about accepting the certificate. It is safe to accept the certificate. The process for accepting a certificate is similar in all Web browsers. Instructions on how to accept the certificate in Netscape 4.7x and Internet Explorer 5.0x are provided below. If you have been through this process before, you will probably be able to skip the instructions. Macintosh users: Although most Mac Web browsers will work, there is a bug in Internet Explorer 5.x that prevents it from accepting the Law Library's certificate. You will need to use an alternate browser to access the proxy service. Instructions on Accepting the Site Certificate in Netscape 4.7x Step 1: Click Next. Step 2: Click Next to continue. Step 3: Click "Accept this certificate forever...", then click
Next. Step 4: Make sure "Warn me before I send information..." is
NOT checked, then click Next. Step 5: Click the Finish button. That's it - you will not be prompted
to accept the certificate again. Instructions on Accepting the Site Certificate in Internet Explorer 5.0x Click Yes. That's it - you will not be prompted to accept the certificate
again. |
