Electronic Resource Access Restrictions

Although any computer with web access can reach the UW Law Library web site, most of our databases are licensed resources from commercial vendors. Therefore, there may be restrictions in place which limit access to these materials.

Free Free web resource available to all.
These resources are freely available on the Internet. There are no licensing restrictions.
Free to Wisconsinites Licensed access for Wisconsin citizens.
These resources are available to all public, academic and special libraries, schools, institutions of higher education and individual Wisconsin citizens. May require user authentication by IP (Internet protocol) address or by user ID and password.
UW-Madison only Licensed resource limited to use inside campus libraries or remotely by UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff.

These resources are licensed for use inside campus libraries or remotely by UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff via WiscWorld or EZProxy. Persons not affiliated with the UW-Madison are invited to use these resources, but they must be accessed from a library on campus.
Licensed resource limited to use inside UW Law School building or remotely by UW Law School students, faculty, and staff.
These resources are licensed for use inside the UW Law School building or remotely by UW Law School students, faculty, and staff using the Law Library's Proxy Service. Persons not affiliated with the UW Law School are invited to use these resources, but they must be accessed from the public workstations in the Law Library.
Law School/Library only Licensed resource limited to use inside UW Law School building only.
These resources are only available inside the UW Law School building. Persons not affiliated with the UW Law School are invited to use these resources, but they must be accessed from the public workstations in the Law Library.
Law Library only Licensed resource limited to use at Law Library public workstations only.
These resources are only available from the public workstations inside the Law Library. Persons not affiliated with the UW Law School are invited to use these resources at the Law Library.
Password Required Licensed resource limited to UW Law School students, faculty, and staff (password required).

These resources are only available to UW Law School students, faculty, and staff. Although they may be used from any computer with an Internet connection, these resources require a password for access. Passwords are issued to authorized users only.
