Civil Trial Preparation

A Selective Bibliography

I. Publications Covering Multiple Aspects of Trial Preparation   II. Initial Interview/Causes of Action/Opening the File   III. Investigation/Evidence Gathering, Evaluation, and Preparation
IV. Pleadings   V. Discovery   VI. Motion Practice - Pretrial Motions
VII. Settlement   VIII. Trial Preliminaries: Client & Witness Preparation; Trial Briefs

Because of the superabundance of books and articles about civil trial preparation, this bibliography is highly selective. Its emphasis is on general works, rather than those on specific types of litigation, and is mostly limited to those published since 1990.

The first part of the bibliography lists publications covering multiple aspects of trial preparation. Following this, listings are organized into sections roughly corresponding to the stages of trial preparation. Because these stages are not always neatly separable, overlap is unavoidable. Where this occurs, a work has been put arbitrarily in one section without duplicating the entry in another.

Law Library call numbers for books are provided for its holdings. Journal articles are in titles in the Law Library Periodicals Collection, 3rd floor, south and east wings, unless otherwise indicated.
