The United States Patent Office at http://www.uspto.gov. The United States Patent Office
provides a database of all patents filed with the United States Patent Office. The patent office
offers a Full Text Database, a Full Page Image Database, and a Published Applications
Database. Patents can be researched in a variety of ways on the USPTO databases. Keyword
searching and field searching are available in the Full Text database. Coverage in the Full Text
Database dates from 1976 to the present. Coverage for the full-page images database has patents
dating from 1790. The Patent Applications Database dates from 2001 to the present.
The Canadian Patent Office at http://patents.ic.gc.ca/cipo/cpd/welcome.html The Canadian
patent office provides access to full text patents. Coverage dates from 1978 to the present. A
full page images database is also available at this web site. The Full Page Image database
includes the cover page, abstract, claims, drawings and designs. The site warns that there is a
limitation on downloading pages in PDF.
