This outline has been created as a reference for students in legal aspects of elementary and secondary education classes.

Location information for titles of which the library may have multiple copies is limited to Grand Reading Room (5th Floor, West Wing) and the Quarles and Brady Reading Room (5th Floor, East Wing). Everything with “Ref” at the beginning of its call number is part of our Reference Collection and is located in the Grand Reading Room. -Annotated codes/statutes
--Usually updated with pocket parts, paper supplements, and a legislative service. For example, West's Wisconsin Statutes Annotated supplements its bound volumes with pocket parts, a paperback Interim Annotations Service, and with West's Wisconsin Legislative Service.

--Official indexes and bill status publications, e.g. the Bulletin of the Proceedings of the Wisconsin Legislature, Ref/KFW/2412/W57, lists new Acts.
    
-Administrative Regulations
--Annual Code of Federal Regulations titles updated by the daily Federal Register.

--The Wisconsin Administrative Code is in looseleaf format and is updated monthly. Consult the semi-monthly Administrative Register for Emergency Rules in effect.

IV. Legal Citations

-Citation Formats - The following are typical of legal citations, which usually make use of abbreviated titles, but may not necessarily be in exact "Blue Book" form. (Citations frequently vary according to the citing source.) Refer to The Blue Book: A Uniform System of Citation (infra.), Wisconsin Guide to Taxation (infra.), and local court rules for proper citation forms.

--Codified laws or statutes: abbreviated title-section-(year), e.g. Wis. Stat. sec. 118.15 (2001-2002)

--Session laws: name of act, act or chapter number, year-abbreviated title-page number, e.g. Act of April 15, 1978, Act 285, 1987 Wis. Laws 1019

--Court decisions: case name, volume-abbreviated title-series page (year) (parallel citations to other reporters often follow), e.g. Wisconsin v. Yoder, 49 Wis. 2d 430, 182 N.W.2d 539 (1971), aff'd, 406 U.S. 205, 92 S.Ct. 1526, 32 L.Ed. 15 (1972)
